One Scooter Company Leaves The City, Three More Still Here

On Behalf of | Jun 8, 2019 | Scooter Accident

It seems like we are hearing about electric scooters on a daily basis. Whether you love them or hate them, it looks like they will be in Kansas City for a while. With all of this scooter activity, we want to talk about what you can expect as a rider or a third party this summer.

At Mayer & Rosenberg, P.C., we are here to help if you are injured in any kind of pedestrian incident that was caused by another person’s negligence. Let us get to work on securing the compensation you deserve when you need a bird scooter accident lawyer in Kansas City.

What Is Happening With Scooters?

We are sure that some people were breathing a sigh of relief when they heard that Lime would not be bringing their electric scooters back to Kansas City this summer. However, that certainly does not mean we that these scooters are gone.

City officials have announced that three other companies, Bird, RideKC, and Spin are all bringing their electric scooters to the city. They will operate in the corridor from River Market to the Country Club Plaza on a one-year pilot program to study “shared active transportation.”

Why is this such a big deal? These scooters help people get around, right?

While electric scooters have proven to be convenient for some, they have also brought plenty of major injuries, and even deaths, to cities around the US. We do not yet have any good studies on how many injuries these scooters cause. Typically, they are lumped into the category of “pedestrian accidents.”

We do know that the following injuries are common in scooter-related crashes:

Each of these injuries can cause victims to accumulate massive medical bills, and that is only the beginning of the costs. If a victim cannot work while they recover, the lost income can impact their ability to pay household bills and support their families.

Who gets hurt in these crashes?

Riders, third-party pedestrians who get struck, and people who trip over discarded scooters are all vulnerable to major injuries.
