Hit-And-Run Crash Leaves One Injured

by | Mar 1, 2019 | Vehicle Accidents

Last week there was a two-vehicle collision that left one person hospitalized. The worst part about the incident is that one of the drivers fled the scene of the accident.

The incident happened on February 3 at the bottom of the exit ramp to Blue Ridge Boulevard. The vehicle that was struck overturned and caught fire as a result of the crash. There was one person inside who sustained serious injuries. Witnesses said that the other vehicle involved fled the scene. At the time of writing, the hit-and-run driver has not been apprehended.

At Mayer & Rosenberg, P.C., we know that drivers and passengers in and around the city face dangers on a daily basis. Despite how safely you may drive, you cannot predict the behavior of other drivers around you. If you need a Kansas City car accident lawyer, you can count on us to be by your side, working diligently to secure the compensation you deserve.

The State Numbers

We can turn to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Statistical Analysis Center to give us the numbers we need to understand the many dangers on our roadways. For the latest reporting year, we see that there were:

  • 153,422 total vehicle crashes
  • 923 people killed
  • 57,270 people injured

The injuries sustained in these crashes range from minor to catastrophic. Concerning minor injuries, we need to point out that they can lead to major medical expenses. X-rays and MRIs can cost thousands of dollars.

For major injuries (spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, internal organ damage, etc.), the expenses can rise into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. What many people do not think about are the many hidden expenses that come due to vehicle accident injuries. This can include things like home and vehicle accommodations, lost income if a person or family caregiver cannot work, as well as emotional and psychological damage.

It is true that alcohol-related crashes tend to cause more injuries and fatalities than any other causes. For the latest reporting year, we find that alcohol was involved in 2,607 traffic injuries and 122 traffic deaths.

The main cause of crashes remains speeding, killing 334 people and injuring 10,086.

Of rising concern are drivers who are distracted by their phones or other devices while they should be watching the roadway.
