Speed reportedly involved in fatal accident

It is common to hear a lot about auto accidents that cause serious injuries or even death around major holidays such as Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. However, Missouri drivers should be always aware of the dangers that distracted drivers, drunk drivers or inattentive drivers pose to them as these tragedies can and do occur at any time, not just over a holiday.

One such car accident happened recently near North Oak and 102nd Terrace. A woman in a pickup truck was leaving a parking lot and turning onto the road when she was struck by a driver in a sedan. Reports indicate that the sedan was travelling at a high rate of speed when it collided with the truck. After the impact, the truck caught on fire which ended up making it harder for investigators to identify the victim, who died there at the site of the accident.

Eventually, a team comprised of law enforcement officers and workers from the Kansas City Accident Investigation Section were able to get details about the woman in the truck. She was found to have been a 13-year veteran of the Missouri Department of Transportation. It is not known yet if any charges have been filed against the driver of the sedan or if any are planned.

When an accident like this happens, it can be helpful for surviving family members to talk with an attorney. Doing so can offer insight into opportunities for compensation due to pain and suffering and loss of companionship.
