Law enforcement suspect fatigue in fatal motorcycle accident

Getting behind the wheel while drowsy is a risky behavior. Many people in Missouri and across the country may not realize how fatigued they are until they hit the road. Drooping eyes and a tired mind can cause serious and even fatal accidents. As a recent incident illustrates, the victims of these incidents can be innocent and unsuspecting parties.

A 67-year-old woman was driving her pickup truck in Wyoming when law enforcement officers say she crossed the center line. When she did, she struck a motorcycle that was driving southbound and side-swiped another motorcycle that had swerved to try to get out of the way. Authorities suspect that the pickup truck driver may have been fatigued, noting that charges are pending an investigation.

While the truck driver and her passenger were taken to the hospital, they were released after treatment. Unfortunately, two of the people on the motorcycles were not as lucky. The 63-year-old driver of the first motorcycle and his passenger, a 58-year-old woman, both died at the scene of the incident. Two other riders, who were on the second motorcycle, were injured. They were air lifted to a hospital for medical attention. All four motorcyclists were from Missouri.

No matter the outcome of this investigation, it cannot be denied that drowsy driving is a serious issue. Further, drivers should always be cognizant of their surroundings, taking care to look for smaller vehicles, like motorcycles, on the road. People who have been involved in a serious motor vehicle accident for which they are not at fault should contact an attorney.
