The dangers of drinking and driving are commonly talked about yet this does not seem sufficient to prevent people from making the choice to operate a motor vehicle after drinking too much. Far too many people in Missouri continue such behavior, putting themselves and countless numbers of innocent victims in harm’s way. These drunk drivers can be considered one of the greatest dangers on area roads.
The friends and family members of a 19-year old man from Independence know this all too well. Today they are grieving the loss of the young man who was killed in an auto accident. The crash took place early one afternoon on a Sunday on Blue Parkway. The at-fault driver had only had his driving privileges reinstated last year after a license revocation due to an earlier DWI conviction. It is not known if he was legally intoxicated at the time of the recent crash.
In the crash that claimed the young man’s life, the drive that caused the accident was reported to have been driving at up to 80 miles per hour. He also ran at least two red lights just before striking the vehicle. Charges of involuntary manslaughter have been levied in the case with a bond of $150,000.
People who have been hit by a drunk driver or any other person displaying negligence when behind the wheel deserve compensation. Medical expenses, loss of wages and more can all cause serious difficulties for victims. Working with an attorney can be one way of receiving the necessary help during these difficult times.
