Some residents of Kansas City may enjoy recreational or social drinking, or may simply enjoy a drink just as a way to unwind or relax at home. However, the danger comes in when those who have been drinking decide to drive. Drunk driving accidents can affect not only the driver, but any person that they might accidentally injure while on the road.
This is pointed out very clearly by one family who recently lost their daughter to a drunk driver. The father of the woman stated that they are only one of 11,000 families in South Dakota alone that have been affected by DUI related casualties or accidents since the year 2001. The accident that his daughter was involved in occurred in July 2013, when she and her colleagues were struck by a vehicle while standing outside of their hotel.
The man responsible for this accident caused two deaths and is currently facing not only vehicular homicide charges, but charges of first degree manslaughter as well. While there have been arguments against him driving under the influence in court, he is also facing one count of ingesting nonalcoholic substances for intoxication and one count of drunk driving. The family of the girl has stated that they hope any penalties will be served consecutively.
This is the story of just one of many families who have to deal with tragic and difficult loss after DUI related issues enter their lives. For anyone who has been involved in an accident or whose loved ones have been injured by a DUI driver, it might be beneficial to contact an attorney.
