Tending to a neck injury

This will lower the swelling and help keep a person’s neck in one place, limiting movement and allowing any sprains or tears in the muscle to heal faster. It is also suggested that painkillers be taken if the injury is causing the sufferer to be distracted.

Massage may also be a feasible alternative to both alleviating pain and encouraging healing. This is especially true if it is a strain injury or a pulled muscle. This can remove pressure from the neck and allow the area to relax, which encourages healing and dampens pain.

Additionally, moist heat may be applied to the neck. However, ice should be the only thing used for the first two to three days because minimizing swelling is the most important thing that a person can do when treating a neck injury. After swelling has been eliminated, pain control and methods of promoting healing can then be brought in.
